Improved Cardiovascular Risk Estimation in People with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: Potential Role of Specialised Risk Equations and CT Coronary Calcium Score
Background: Cardiovascular risk (CVR) prediction is suboptimal in people with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). New Zealand (NZ) guidelines recommend that CVR be estimated using a modified Framingham equation (NZG). Recently, a new risk score has been derived for patients with T2DM in NZ (NZD). We assessed the potential role of CT coronary calcium score (CCS) to reclassify people from intermediate to high risk when estimated by the NZD compared to the NZG equation.
